Resistance training to improve bone and muscle health in older men: The LIFTMOR for Men study - QLD

ARE YOU ELIGIBLE?
Men over the age of 50 who are willing to attend Griffith University Gold Coast campus twice a week for 8 months for free supervised exercise training are encouraged to call for screening. Not everyone is eligible, but we’ll be able to tell by asking some simple questions about your health and current physical activity.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
A free 8-month exercise program supervised by a qualified Exercise Scientist (that ordinarily would cost over $2000), for a start! Eligible male volunteers will be randomly allocated to one of two eight month, twice-weekly, 30-minute exercise programs; either supervised progressive resistance training and impact loading, or bioDensity™ machine-based isometric resistance training. Participants will also receive free bone density scans and body composition scans (muscle and fat) at the beginning and end of the study, and average daily calcium consumption will be calculated. Free parking is available onsite. Your involvement in this study will help contribute to the understanding of exercise as a treatment strategy for bone health and fracture prevention, helping countless older men suffering from osteoporosis.
HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED?
Anyone can register their interest on the website www.liftmor.org. For more information about the LIFTMOR for Men exercise program please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or call 0410 616 596.
